My mom had bad teeth and my dad had good teeth.    I had a 50/50 chance of getting the good teeth gene and sadly, I got the bad teeth gene.
Big sigh...

3 weeks ago an old gold crown fell off, again, and I went to the dentist and they glued it back on.   I was hoping to get a couple more years out of it, but when it fell off again last night, the sad truth is that it is a goner.

Yesterday, while still recovering from a tooth implant surgery from last week, (I know, I know!) I painted a painting like I had never painted before.

I painted this and did not even think about what I was painting until it was done.

I then realized that this was like I felt inside getting that tooth implant surgery.

Then later last night, I had to debate wether this was the surgery feeling or the feeling of that crown on the other tooth falling off again.

I am now settled to thinking that it is a weird psychic combination of both.

I am ready to pay the piper (read: dentist) and get this behind me.

Geez.

I painted some BIG flowers!

I bought some ugly "Granny" landscape paintings that had cool frames, so I painted over the paintings and discovered that now I  liking frames!

Then I started painting howling coyote-wolf-dogs and added a flower!   It IS Springtime, after all....

I had to paint this as I dreamed about painting striped hair.
I am on a big "stripe-kick" lately.

When I think outside the box.
I really think OUTSIDE the box.
I am a painter.

I painted a chair.

I painted a sofa.

I painted a room.

All the time I was painting "not paintings" - I was thinking thinking thinking...
"What do I want to paint next?"

This was on my mind.

A colorful rock path that I called,
"Step on through to the other side."

I liked the black background and the oranges and whites and carried them through to this bird/person.

Same colors used differently.

Now more bird oriented and different colored background...
This is in progress.
Needs some orange!

Four white walls and free reign to paint whatever I wanted.
OK!
That sounded like fun!

The room.
White walls.

Dark blue at the bottom and shades of blue moving up the wall...

There are just some "ugly" points in the progress in getting to where I hoped to end up.
This is one of them.

Here is where I hope the idea in my head will happen...

The paint on the bottom was refusing to dry so I could not finish this just yet.

Large portions of the wall would make good paintings on their own.

Red loopy lines every where!

Repainted the red loopy lines from last week and started the stripes.

Now I was feeling better.
Loved this!

I was smiling now!

Am I crazy?
I really liked it before and now, and now...

Stripes on stripes!
Oh, this will be great for the baby's room!
Think of all that visual stimulation!

Layers on layers on layers and stripes on stripes.
Yummy!

This room is bound to make any baby happy!

Leave the door open, and joy will spill out to the rest of the house.

Done.
:)

Starting over means that I had to put two base coats of white on each pillow.
Each side of each pillow and cushion....

Does not feel like "art" to me at this point....

Feels like work...

Now, this is getting better....

I seldom draw anything out ahead of time - but repainting these pillows was not on my agenda...

OK.
Glad I drew it out first.

The back and the insides are covered with pillows and won't show - so I did not paint green all the way to the bottom.
Decided that it would not "feel" complete, unless I painted it all.
(sigh...)

Feels better.
I left those two strips of original fabric - just so that person who buys this is aware of what the sofa started out like.

Yes.
I am liking this now!

So far, it had only seemed real in my head...

With the side pillows.
Still missing a little "something" though....

Painted that cording black all around the edges...
Still... still... eh, missing "something"....

Pin striping!
That was what was missing!

Now all I have to do is paint 6 coats of clear sealant on every surface.
Six.
On EVERY surface.

Then I get my worktable back.

I am anxious to paint a painting.

A simple one sided flat painting.

Yep.

I told everybody that painting that chair was so much work, that I would never do that again.  It was a good experience - but too much work.
So, what did I do?
I bought a SOFA at a garage sale to paint.
I really really really debated about buying it.
The lines are simple and clean and the material is like denim, which is just about like canvas.
I bought it and now I have to paint it.

I put it on the porch to paint it.

Quickly realized it needed to be up higher or my back was gonna do me in...

I started blending colors onto the uh, canvas...

Realized the porch was too cold and too narrow to work on this - brought it in and put it on my work table.

More blending of colors.

It was looking too boring so I spiffed it up.

This was getting better.  Then I thought that I would put in big blocks of white to counter balance the similar sized patches of blue and green.

ARGHHH!
Now it looks like a flock of birds pooped all over it!
Big birds too!

OK then.
I will start over.

 A fresh base for a new painting/sofa.

I am not so good at photoshop - but in order to not paint this whole sofa AGAIN, I wanted to get an idea of colors and shapes to see what I would like.

Or something like this....

I painted the top edge lime green and the back and sides, I painted shades of orange from dark to lighter at the top.

Oh my gosh!
Two coats of primer white on each pillow.  Two sides to each pillow and cushion.  This is getting to be a big big BIG project.

A leap of faith on
making these lines.
Looks like a bar code couch  here.
 Ewwwww.

Ahhhh.... better.....

I am liking this part here!

Trying to imagine orange pillows.
Stay tuned....

I have been thinking about painting a chair.

Found the right kind of chair at Goodwill.

Painted it darker at the bottom and faded lighter towards the top.

Worked on the reverse
 from the top.
Darker red to lighter orange...

Had to take it outside to
get better light.

Painting the cushion black.

This was the scary part.
I really like the background and this could really mess it up if I don't like what happens next...

This is the part where I have to really imagine what it may look like when I get the stripes put on!

Whew!
I am gonna like this!

Now the black cushion is drying and I have to decide what to do with that....

Eww.
 THAT looks awful!
More paint!
STAT!

Ummm....
Very interesting.
But, I don't like that either.
More Paint!
STAT!

Ahhh....
That's better.
A little more touch up tomorrow and it will be done.
Going to seal it up with a clear poly-acrylic and then it will be available to go to a new home.

Five coats of sealant on everything and this chair is done and available for sale!

I painted the cushion on one side with some circles and dots.
The other side is plain.
Something for everyone...

There is an iphone app called - Superimpose - that I have been having a lot of fun with lately.
Then...
The cow seemed to suit this app perfectly.
Then....
I could not stop "apping" the cow.
So here ya go...

Here's the original painting.

Then I thought I would put the cow by this barn that I took a photo of whilst driving yesterday.

You get the idea....

I saw a painting from the 1800's of some cows in a field.   I thought to myself, " I wanna paint a cow."
So I drew a cow shape on an envelope - just to see if I liked cow shapes.

Yeah.   I like the shape.

I painted a cow field-like background over an older painting.

Made me a cow.
He looked sad and pensive and
lonely.

Still looked sad and pensive and lonely - but with stripes and dots.

Added a couple of cows in the background to alleviate the loneliness.

Goodbye pensive and sad face.

So now the cow has a sorta shy look and a "Hey!  Look at me!   I can be your friend!" look.
Well, that's how is appears to me...

I bought 5 paintings at Goodwill.  Looks like they were all painted by the same person.
For me - good price on canvas!

I blocked out big chunky shapes and dripped black paint over the chunks.

I got a styrofoam meat tray and carved some simple geometric patterns in it and used the same colors as the chunky blocks and started stamping.

Made for a cool mid-century looking background.

I did say that I was working on
5 at a time?

Black lines for everybody!

White stripes and the red loopty-loops!

Give them loopy-loops some stripes too!

Black Circles!

Finishing touches on all the black circles - photo-shopped black frames to show them off an now they are for sale in my Etsy Store!
