The Busy Artist is the Happy Artist

1/30/2013

I have been busy.
Spring cleaning and painting over paintings that were just not "right."

Picture

This is a painting of mine that did not make me happy and I have painted over it and left some of the original under there to peek through.
 This is not finished yet.

Picture

This is what it looked like before.
It is one that I made using my styrofoam meat tray - "woodblock" prints.

Picture

I bought this at a yard sale a couple of years ago and it actually looks a little better in this photo than in person.
  But...
Time for it to reincarnate.

Picture

Hideous leafy texture.
But nice texture, if it is NOT a tree anymore....
Scraped the biggest lumps off and  kept the rest.

Picture

And off I go!

Yep.
Same painting.
Getting it put up on the wall of my gallery!
Now titled:
"I know it's only Rock and Roll, but I like it!"

Music and art and me.

I am almost always listening to music when I paint.
Might be Pandora.
Might be a CD.
Might be the ancient Ipod with 3200 songs on it.
Might be the radio.
The constant, is that I am listening.

The long and winding road

I really really like to put textures and patterns and colors together.   Sometimes that looks like something every one will recognize and sometimes, not...

I am pleased with the way this one came out.   I have been inspired lately by oodles of abstract paintings I have "pinned" on Pinterest and totally inspired by the paintings by Margaret Glew and Wendy Mcwilliams.
I seldom buy art - but there was one by Wendy that I had to have - and I could sorta afford it.
It came in the mail today and I have already put it in a temporary frame.

Making Faces

Here is a photo journey
of painting a face!
Picture

It started with a painting a friend gave me to paint over.
She bought it at at thrift store and did not get around to using it herself.

Picture

I have been in a yellow mood lately - so thought I would go with that.

Picture

I painted thickly in places and put some texture in there and then splattered some blue/green on top.

Picture

See...

Picture

Added some pink and orange over that...

Picture

Added black lines.

Picture

White stripes.  Check!

Picture

Decided I wanted the roundy part at the bottom - so flipped the canvas around and then blocked in a face.

Picture

Eyes - mouth - yep.  That's gonna be a face.

Picture

Face outline and jaw...

Picture

Darker nose and then added hair hair and more hair...

Picture

Pink cheeks.

Picture

Put some white on the eyes and each eye ended up looking a
different direction.
 Ooopsy.

Picture

Wiped the paint off.
Several times...

Picture

Got the eyes figured out - added more hair and added lines around the pink cheeks.
Done.
I painted the wooden frame black and today will re-assemble it all back together and it will be for sale!
