Bye Bye Birdie!

Ya know, you work by yourself, you talk to yourself, you breathe all those paint fumes by yourself, and sometimes you get some crazy ideas!
I decided to give, yes GIVE a painting to Pam.
She got to pick out the one she wanted and walk away with a FREE painting.
OK.
There is a catch....
She has to carry it around with her for a month and send me a photo every day.

Here I am on the left, handing the Sassy Bird painting over to Pam.

Oh, I knew right away that Pam would take good care of her new painting!

They went to Burgerville to get to know each other over sweet potato fries and a Whopper.
Picture
They went to visit Grandma...
Picture
Then to Joanne's Fabrics, and just look at that bird now.
What Sassy Bird does not like to preen and show off a bit?
Picture
Sassy Bird looks a little peeved that there are Valentine decorations out when it is not even Xmas yet.
Geez.

The buttons look Yummy!

At Walgreens, Sassy got into the
Xmas spirit!

What a nice surprise!
Pam made Sassy some pajamas and slippers for Xmas!

How does it all begin?

I was painting a background on a canvas and at my stopping point, I stepped back and said to myself,
"Hey! That looks like a face!"
Picture
I had been thinking of trying to paint faces for a while and this happy accident told me to give it a go.
It showed me that even though it is not a "portrait" it still can look face-like.
So, I decided to give it a go.
Picture

Here is the first try.
( I have already painted it over)

Picture

Second face.
I like that the mouth extends beyond the face.

Picture

I took that second painting and played with it in a "superimpose" app on my iPhone and really liked the look of the stripes behind the face.
So I thought I would try to paint that.

Picture

Face #3 over striped background.

Picture

Face # 4.
Trying to figure out how to "block" the sections of a face together.   Cool unintended effect - looks like two faces...

Picture

Faces # 5 & 6.
Had two scraps of canvas and still thinking about those stripes under the faces.

Picture

Remember face #2?
This is the do-over face#2 and is my face painting #7.
I don't like it at all and will do-it-over again.
This may well be a cursed piece of canvas.   (sometimes that happens..)

Picture

Face #8.
I really like this one, but for some odd reason it looks like Jesus - and not just to me - a couple of friends thought the same thing.
Now, if you knew me, you would find that very, (VERY) amusing.

So.
This was a brief tour of how my process and progress proceeds when I am painting.
:)

Free Art from ME!

Yes.   A free painting from me to you.
Or somebody else...

Here is how "someone" will get a free painting:
Look over there on the right side of this blog.  Yep - over there.
See the "Facebook link?"
Well, when my facebook page gets to 300 "Likes" then I am going to us a random number generator and have it pick ONE lucky Facebook person from my "Likes'" and I will mail that person a painting of my choice.   FREE.
As long as it goes to an address in the US.
Good luck!

Artists helping Artists

The Mary Lou Zeek Gallery, in Salem Oregon has a great idea!
She bought a vintage cigarette machine and has repurposed it so it can dispense art.
You buy a $10 token and put in the machine, pull the lever and get a piece of hand made art.   The mystery is in who's art you will get!
All for a good cause!
ALL the money goes into her Artists Helping Artists fund for artists who need help.
Fabulous!
Picture

Here is my "carton" of art to paint for the machine.

Picture

Orange.
Oh how I love Orange.

Picture
Picture

I could not leave the backside blank!

Picture

And those sides needed stripes!

Picture

Had to sign them!

Even though I painted them as a whole, I tried to get each one to have enought visual interest as an individual piece of art.

Painting these was a little challenging - as there are all those sides on each little block, and they are so SO much smaller than my usual work.

It is fun to see them as individual little pieces of art.

I would do it again for sure!
