9/28/2012

I know lots of artists, and not one of them has too much money.   Since I have the building/gallery/studio - I decided to create the ART FEST for my pals to bring work for one day to display and sell.

So please come by  to check it out.

Sunday, October 7th from Noon- 5pm at
1914 Elm Street
Forest Grove, OR 97116

These are photos from the last ART FEST - I have no idea what people
will bring this time.
I do not have any idea how many

 artists I have invited.

 A lot.

They are artists.

Who knows if they will all show up or not.
I expect at least 15-20...

I kinda like the element of surprise - so I will just make room for as many artists as needed!
Picture

There is a bonus ART FEST event!

On October 7th, artists from all around the WORLD will be placing birds they have created in trees and photographing them.
This is part of "International Bird Art Exhibition" day.

All the artist at ART FEST will bring a hand made bird and we will take photos and become part of the worldwide event.

How fun is that?

Annie, Get Your Painting!

9/27/2012

Annie picked out a Helvi Smith painting that she will carry with her for a month.
Everywhere.
Let's see where Annie and the Helvi Smith painting go, shall we?

Picture

Here is the painting that Annie will take with her and she will get to keep this at the end of 30 days.

Picture

The hand-off on the porch of my gallery/studio...

Picture

Oooh.
I hope there is not a permit required to carry a painting around for 30 day.
I hate red tape....

Picture

Looky here!
My painting got to visit a glass gallery in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Picture

OK - so this is a teeny photo of the painting in Tillamook, Oregon.
Looks like this painting is gallery-hopping!

Making a bird.

Picture

OK.
I know that is not a bird.
That is a deconstructed robot painting that I did not care for.

Picture

So I painted over it in blocks of color and then scraped away in a very artful manner, to reveal some of the pattern and colors of the original painting.

Picture

See - it is a fun technique!

Picture

I outlined my bird shape using my squirt bottle of black paint.

Picture

Painting in between the lines.

Picture

Like a coloring book....

Picture

Baaad Beak!   Must fix!

Picture

Beak fixed - but not sure about leaving that colorful "collar" on the bird...

Picture

Yeah.... better colored in.
Added a tail, too.

Picture

Time to color in the belly!

Picture

Made the belly bigger and squared off the edges a bit.

Picture

Belly belly good.

Picture

Stripes!

Picture

Love it when I make the eye!   Now this bird is alive with personality!

Picture

This bird told me it is SASSY!
So that got it some SASSY arms!

Picture

Striped legs and a dotted belly and SASSY arms!
What could be better?

Picture

Striped arms, that's what!
I have no preconceived ideas when I paint and when something like this happens, it is magic.

Pure wonderful fun magic!

Thanks for going on this magical mystery tour with me!
(and the bird!)

Bird on the brain and birds on the canvas too...

I have been working on a bird series.   It has been good timing to correspond with cleaning up my studio and space in preparation for a couple of events here in October.
So....
I have a lot of paintings that had been delegated to the "back" until further notice.

Picture

This painting had a lot of nice texture and I re-painted it.
Again.

Picture

Bird in the works.

Picture

I like this bird.

Picture

All that texture just adds so much to the painting.
Almost like I had planned it.

I have been thinking about landscapes and under-the-land-scapes for a while.

Fissures and fracking and the like.

So I painted some of my vague ideas onto canvas.

I got it figured out!

I've seen paintings for sale on websites and they have photoshopped the painting onto a wall so people can see the size of the painting and thus get an idea if it is their style or want.
My want, has been to figure out HOW to do that for my paintings.
I have been working on it for a looooong time - trying to figure it out.

Picture
Here is the background I purchased and downloaded.

There is MY PAINTING on the wall in the photo!
Whew!

Woo-Hoo!

Bye Bye Birdies

I am a thrift store shopper.
  Always have been.
I have been selling antiques and collectibles for years - so now when I am shopping - I simply look for paint and brushes and canvas in addition to all the other stuff I look for...
Picture
I found this BIG 4 foot square canvas with a bonus!

It had a great texture already on it.

I did google Thomas Lee and it was as I suspected.

A lousy 1970's furniture store art painting.

So no qualms for me to paint it over.
Picture

Pigeon eradication begins.

Picture

I never plan ahead what I am going to do.

I just start painting.

Picture

I found a little tube of ORANGE acrylic paint at Goodwill yesterday and put it to use here.

Picture

Added a little of this and a little of that...

Picture

and a little of that and a little of this....until "Requiem for Two Pigeons" was completed.
