The Brush Off

I have good junker pals. Got out of the shower this morning and there was a voicemail on my cell phone. My pal said that there were a TON of paint brushes at my local Goodwill store and she gave very specific instructions as to where she (hid) placed them.
I stopped there before I went to work!

Funny - but I have not even been painting with brushes lately. But if I ever, EVER need some brushes - I got 'em!
Not great brushes - but they will do...
:)

I had this lamp shade in a pile to go to Goodwill and thought - why not paint it? I started it about a month ago and today was the day to see if I could finish it...

Then I thought - why not paint this old white sweatshirt?
Not done with it yet...
Kinda looks like a murder took place...
Hmmmm.....
I may have to rethink the color scheme...

Oopsie! Looks like I was having too much fun and did not know when to stop....

I am an avid thrift store shopper and yesterday I hit the motherlode of cool artwork.
These caught my eye from across the store.
I grabbed them so fast that any in-store video camera would have only shown a blur.
A blurry blur at that.

I got oodles of these original portraits.
Great colors and shapes and textures.
Right up my alley.

These are by a local Portland artist, Margie Lee, and I contacted her to let her know these found an appreciative new home. She was very kind and said that it would not even bother her if I painted over these.
Uh, no, Margie.
These are not do-overs.
I know a do-over when I see one...

I have always like art - paintings - ceramics - glass - just art in general.
Now that I have turned the front part of my office into a gallery for MY art - I have had to take other people's art that I like and display it somewhere else.
Turns out "somewhere else" is the bathroom.
Here are some examples of art that I have found at rock-bottom prices at thrift stores.
I am far from wealthy - but I do loves me some good art.

I like trying new things and I recently saw some art at an opening and the artist explained his process.
I listened carefully and decided to try something along the same lines.
Or waves, as it may be...

Close-ups of a section. Facebook friends saw ALL kinds of stuff in this section.....

I did some more yesterday and can hardly wait to see how it dried overnight....

I found two nice RED frames at a thrift store and had no qualms at all about removing the kid's room prints out of these and putting my own art in their place....

I have been framing lots of pieces of my work - and I am stunned by how much better the art looks.
Stunned.

I have been buying frames at garage sales and thrift stores and framing them myself.
A real framer would be aghast at my skills - but I am getting it done!
