Back to my version of "Normal"

When I think outside the box.
I really think OUTSIDE the box.
I am a painter.

Picture

I painted a chair.

Picture

I painted a sofa.

Picture

I painted a room.

All the time I was painting "not paintings" - I was thinking thinking thinking...
"What do I want to paint next?"

Picture

This was on my mind.

A colorful rock path that I called,
"Step on through to the other side."

Picture

I liked the black background and the oranges and whites and carried them through to this bird/person.

Picture

Same colors used differently.

Picture

Now more bird oriented and different colored background...
This is in progress.
Needs some orange!

Room to Paint

3/25/2013

Four white walls and free reign to paint whatever I wanted.
OK!
That sounded like fun!

Picture

The room.
White walls.

Picture

Dark blue at the bottom and shades of blue moving up the wall...

Picture

There are just some "ugly" points in the progress in getting to where I hoped to end up.
This is one of them.

Picture

Here is where I hope the idea in my head will happen...

Picture

The paint on the bottom was refusing to dry so I could not finish this just yet.

Picture

Large portions of the wall would make good paintings on their own.

Picture

Red loopy lines every where!

Picture

Repainted the red loopy lines from last week and started the stripes.

Picture

Now I was feeling better.
Loved this!

Picture

I was smiling now!

Picture

Am I crazy?
I really liked it before and now, and now...

Picture

Stripes on stripes!
Oh, this will be great for the baby's room!
Think of all that visual stimulation!

Picture
Picture
Picture

Layers on layers on layers and stripes on stripes.
Yummy!

Picture

This room is bound to make any baby happy!

Picture

Leave the door open, and joy will spill out to the rest of the house.

Picture

Done.
:)

Picture

Starting over means that I had to put two base coats of white on each pillow.
Each side of each pillow and cushion....

Picture

Does not feel like "art" to me at this point....

Picture
Picture

Feels like work...

Now, this is getting better....

Picture
Picture

I seldom draw anything out ahead of time - but repainting these pillows was not on my agenda...

Picture

OK.
Glad I drew it out first.

Picture

The back and the insides are covered with pillows and won't show - so I did not paint green all the way to the bottom.
Decided that it would not "feel" complete, unless I painted it all.
(sigh...)

Picture

Feels better.
I left those two strips of original fabric - just so that person who buys this is aware of what the sofa started out like.

Picture

Yes.
I am liking this now!

Picture

So far, it had only seemed real in my head...

Picture

With the side pillows.
Still missing a little "something" though....

Picture

Painted that cording black all around the edges...
Still... still... eh, missing "something"....

Picture

Pin striping!
That was what was missing!

Now all I have to do is paint 6 coats of clear sealant on every surface.
Six.
On EVERY surface.

Then I get my worktable back.

I am anxious to paint a painting.

A simple one sided flat painting.

Yep.

I told everybody that painting that chair was so much work, that I would never do that again.  It was a good experience - but too much work.
So, what did I do?
I bought a SOFA at a garage sale to paint.
I really really really debated about buying it.
The lines are simple and clean and the material is like denim, which is just about like canvas.
I bought it and now I have to paint it.
Picture

I put it on the porch to paint it.

Picture

Quickly realized it needed to be up higher or my back was gonna do me in...

Picture

I started blending colors onto the uh, canvas...

Picture

Realized the porch was too cold and too narrow to work on this - brought it in and put it on my work table.

Picture

More blending of colors.

Picture

It was looking too boring so I spiffed it up.

Picture

This was getting better.  Then I thought that I would put in big blocks of white to counter balance the similar sized patches of blue and green.

Picture

ARGHHH!
Now it looks like a flock of birds pooped all over it!
Big birds too!

Picture

OK then.
I will start over.

Picture

 A fresh base for a new painting/sofa.

Picture

I am not so good at photoshop - but in order to not paint this whole sofa AGAIN, I wanted to get an idea of colors and shapes to see what I would like.

Picture

Or something like this....

Picture

I painted the top edge lime green and the back and sides, I painted shades of orange from dark to lighter at the top.

Picture

Oh my gosh!
Two coats of primer white on each pillow.  Two sides to each pillow and cushion.  This is getting to be a big big BIG project.

Picture
Picture

A leap of faith on
making these lines.
Looks like a bar code couch  here.
 Ewwwww.

Picture

Ahhhh.... better.....

Picture

I am liking this part here!

Picture

Trying to imagine orange pillows.
Stay tuned....
