I am in an artist group on Facebook and last week,
there came out a challenge....
Paint one whole painting everyday for 30 days.
Each person in the group will post their art for the day.
Here is a chronicle of my first day:

Day One/30
I learned that I really like the colors I work with most.
I did dip into some of my own paint to make this painting look the way I wanted it to look at the end.
It is titled:
"Melting Ice Cream Pods."

"Wallflower"
DAY FOUR/30
"Pear on Kimono"
DAY FIVE/30
"Plein Air" is a fancy art word that means, "paint outside."
So that is what I and about 50 other artists did today. In a park with ponds and trails and streams and woods.
I usually paint flat on a table - so I had to find a place to paint. I found a lovely rock bench under a big wooden shaded canopy.
I went behind the rock bench to use the back
of it as my painting ledge.
Someone else had been there recently
and left their condom wrapper.
I applaud the use of safe sex.
I am always disappointed by people who litter.

DAY SIX/30
DAY SEVEN/30
I went on an art studio tour in a town about an hour or so away from my studio. I met some new art pals and reconnected with some others.
I love being an artist. Artists are my peeps.
I did not go to my studio to paint today, so I painted on my iPad.
I saw a photo last week of a pug dog and those wonky eyes just captivated my attention. So tonight I googled pug dogs and tried to figure out how I could paint one in my own style.
I am not a realistic type painter and so I tried a few times and boy, did they look like crap.
So here is what I figured out.
Pug ears look like Doritos.
I can make a triangle!
Their eyes are huge and round.
I can make circles!
They are very dark around their eyes and mouth.
I have some big "brushes" on my drawing program.
I like pears too.

Day Eight/30
I did an iPad painting to test out an idea and I liked it.
So I painted it!

Day Nine/30
"Two Peas in a Pod"
This is a special painting.
A Facebook friend requested me to paint one of my pod paintings - but with just two "peas" in it and on a smaller surface ( 11 x14) than I am used to.
I thought I would give it a try.
I happened to have a few small canvases of that
size hanging around!
This is a delightful story.
The woman who commissioned the painting told me that her mom has been single for 40 years and has started dating a man that she went on ONE date with when
she was in 9th grade!
They have found each other and are in love
and going to get married!
The mom says that she and her new love are like
"Two Peas in a Pod!"
Yep.
Her new love is a trumpet player.
A jazz trumpet player.
Get this.
Today on Pandora - on the "shuffle" mode - as I was painting this painting, I heard a plethora of JAZZ songs and honestly - I am not a big jazz fan.
How those songs all queued up today was amazing.
THEN!
There was another plethora of LOVE songs!
Ooodles of them.
Amazing.
After I had finished the painting and was emailing the daughter about some details, guess what came on Pandora?
Guess?
OK.
I will tell you.
"Going to the Chapel, and We're Gonna Get Married!"
What a great day!

The audio is not good - but I like this anyway.

DAY TWELVE/30
Wall and Flowers
Day Thirteen/30
"Flowers Behind the Wall"
DAY FOURTEEN/30
"Flowers on the Other Side of the Wall"
DAY FIFTEEN/30 - DOUBLED DOWN
The steps to my studio are pressure-treated
and paint does not stick to them.
Well, that could be either a frustrating thing
or an opportunity to repaint them every year.
I look at it as the opportunity
to paint them entirely different each year.

I was very tempted to call painting the steps on of my challenge paintings - but it is really not a painting.
So, I painted a painting today too.
I confess, I am a wee bit tuckered out tonight.

paintings on canvas this next week.

"Flashback"
Day Twenty Two/30
"Twist of Fate"
After painting so many things that looked like, well, things... I had to bust it out and shake it off and do something truly abstract.

Day Twenty Three/30
"Jump for Joy"
Day Twenty Four/30
In Zen Buddhism, an ensō (円相 , "circle"?) is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.
The ensō symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength,
elegance, the universe, and mu (the void).

Day Twenty Five/30
"Food for Thought"
I had a busy day and just did not quite finish this one. And the final photo I took tonight is blurry. Oh, well.
Some days are like that!
